Baja Designs’ Team Enlightened Shine Bright in the 2013 Baja 500
San Marcos, CA – June 12th, 2013 - Congratulations to all participants in this year’s 2013 Tecate Score Baja 500 and a special thank you to Baja Designs’ Team Enlightened. Notably one of the toughest off-road races in the world, this year’s Baja 500 was an invigorating new format that stirred up the race right from the start.
New course sections, new series owner and new rules made for an especially exciting race. The 500 course was very technical, compared to recent years, which meant most race teams had no choice but to turn on their lights and drive through the night.
Baja Designs’ Team Enlightened earned a total of 19 podium finishes in 16 classes.

Red Bull Trophy Truck racer Bryce Menzies qualified 3rd and finished 3rd in class, only minutes behind the first place team. Bryce’s co-driver Pete Mortensen had this to say, “This was our first race with an all LED setup. We had them at the Mint 400, but we didn’t get a chance to use them for more than 20 minutes. Bryce and I were very satisfied with how they performed and I like the fact that they are easy to package on the truck.”
Last year’s release of the Baja Designs OnX LED light bar brought a new technology and experience to off road night racing, allowing for high speed night driving with only LEDs.
Alan Roach, founder and head engineer of Baja Designs raced with Mills Racing in a Spec Trophy Truck finishing 2nd in class. “I drove the entire night section – I saw the sun go down and come up again from the driver’s seat. The LED setup is so much easier on the eye and with the projection of the OnX, I barely noticed it was night time.”
Cody Parkhouse, 4th place finisher in Class 1, said, “The Baja Designs OnX is by far the best light we have ever used on a race car. We came back into Ensenada after more than 120 miles at night with the OnX, not once were we concerned.”
Thank you again to all of our supporters and Team Enlightened for another amazing display of skill, sportsmanship and athleticism at this year’s Tecate Score Baja 500. The Scientists of Lighting are here for all of your lighting needs – no matter what vehicle you choose – ensuring that bright ideas are always made better.

The Baja Designs SII Polisport Kit is the newest and only LED light of its size available for motorcycle use. “Bright, Tiny, and Rugged”. We have mounted our award winning SII LED light in a sleek Polisport headlight shell. This light packs an amazing 1800 Lumens while using a mere 22 watts (1.8 amps) of power. This means that even EFI MX bikes can now run an insanely bright headlight with zero stator modifications. If you are looking for the smallest and brightest motorcycle light on the market with 20 years of motorcycle light manufacturing at its finest, then Baja Designs SII Polisport Kit is your answer!
“With the SII, we finally have a high performance headlight for even the weakest motorcycle charging systems.” says head scientist Alan Roach.
The SII proves that big things do come in small packages. The SII motorcycle light offers an incredible 1800 lumens out of a tiny 3”x 2” housing. Our SII is THE brightest LED light ounce for ounce on the market because it contains the brightest LEDs on the market – 2 CREE T6 bin XM-L LEDs at 5000k color temperature. The SII is designed specifically for comfortable night-time riding. Three patterns are available, a combo/driving pattern, a spot pattern, and a full driving light pattern. Our uService technology allows you to change the front lens and even change the pattern of your light. The SII is designed, engineered, manufactured, and built in California as well as backed by Baja Designs’ limited lifetime warranty. If you are looking for the smallest and brightest LED light on the market the SII motorcycle light is for you!
-Many carbureted motorcycles require a stator rewind or an aftermarket stator to run this headlight. Please contact Baja Designs at 760.560.2252 to have this service performed. Cost for a rewind is $150, 3-5 day turnaround time. An aftermarket stator for most motocross bikes retails for $179.
The Scientists of Lighting at Baja Designs would like to thank all of their sponsored KOH race teams and congratulate Bomber Fabrication’s Randy Slawson for an amazing victory at this year’s 2013 Griffin King of the Hammers race. A long week of preparation and pre-running culminated in a very exciting race on Friday. This year’s KOH was witnessed by a record crowd out at Hammertown and an even larger following via the live internet broadcast. Staying true to its name, King of the Hammers was more relentless and unforgiving than ever before, allowing just 27 finishers out of 129 racers.
Bomber Fabrication’s Randy Slawson had this to say, “We chose to outfit our Bomber Fabrication race car #4448 with two Squadron Wide-Corning lights and one 8″ OnX LED Light bar (with all spot reflectors). This combination allowed us to tune our suspension well into the night in preparation for our bid at the 2013 King of the Hammers. End result, on February 8, 2013 we were crowned “King” of the 2013 King of the Hammers. We highly recommend Baja Designs lighting systems for race applications, recreation off-roading and expedition excursions.”
The Scientists of Lighting – at Baja Designs are thrilled to be part of the 2013 King of the Hammers spectacle. Ultra 4 racing has become well known as one of the toughest race series in the United States and King of the Hammers is the granddaddy of them all. The scientists of Baja Designs will have a booth setup so everyone can see their lights, including the new OnX LED that provides the distance of an HID with the smoothness of an LED. BD scientist will also be on hand to help aim your lights and recommend the ultimate lighting setup for your vehicle. Bluetorch Fabworks owner and racer, Jason Carner says, “We are all really excited for this year’s KOH, and even though we hope we won’t have to use our BD lights for this race, we always know we have the best in the business.”
